- Analysis of Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. by Angelo Thomas:
At first sight, this painting is based on compromise. I assume this because I see Martin Luther King Jr. spending time with this woman he has so much affection for and he has time for her besides of working on ending racial prejudice around the United States. However, I notice a look of thoughtfulness and assurance when dedicating time to the Civil Rights Organization and the non-violent speeches and protests he would participate in. In this painting, the audience’s attention can focus on King and on this woman. The artist, Angelo Thomas, uses both light and dark colors, that are described as, brown, orange, gray, blue, white, yellow, black and a little turquoise. I perceive symbols of pure religion . Some emotions or feelings we can consider from the artist’s painting are that Martin Luther King Jr. was a great leader of his followers with faith. After describing this artwork, we can infer that its mood is hope and unity. From my interpretation, this painting shows strong sense of Martin Luther King Jr.'s social status and personal life because he had to dedicate and focus most of the time the organization he was leading, the Civil Rights Movement. On the other side, he had to spend time with his family to form a strong emotional bond and enjoy of a delightful and full of energy opportunity. Martin Luther King Jr. is dressed formally in the painting and the woman too, which gives me the impression that they worked professionally and took their occupations seriously. The meaning I can form from this piece of artwork is that, King could balance his time evenly with his work but also with his family. It shows that King was willing and determined to progress in the Civil Rights Movement organization.
